Tips and tricks

  • To glue the wing halves together and motor mount, use PU (Polyurethane) glue, e.g. Gorilla Glue, keep pressed together for a while
  • For attaching the winglets use hot glue in the main contact surfaces and silicone glue (Goop) around the bead [7] [8]
  • Add new 4x50mm carbon fiber rods to the underside near the center of gravity point and also to the wings as spars for strength, use thick super glue and kicker
  • Use servo cable extensions to reach the servos from the equipment bay
  • Calculate the motor and propeller size for the desired air speed, flight time and efficency, use eCalc
  • Insert glass fiber rods into the leading winge edge for better dent resistance on crashes, use superglue and glass reinforced tape to cover the groove
  • Make incisions to remove the floor in the equipment bays and use glue+tape to re-attach the floor on the opposite side
  • Put the equipments on the other side, top side, use tip above
  • Relocate the servo holes to be perpendicular to the forward motion direction of the wing
  • Detach the elevons using a razorblade and reattach using strong 3M Mailing and Storage tape for optimal free motion
  • Reinforce the front tip of the wing with 2 x 110 mm carbon fiber rod insert
  • Use glass fiber reinforced tape to cover servo wire trails
  • Scorpion, Hacker, Cobra are all reported to be very good motors if you want better quality [9]
  • To fine adjust the CoG, center of gravity, use the battery and motor as weight, pick a suitable combination, simple rule is motor weight / 0.025 ~= battery cap+-100 mAh, battery cap * 0.025 ~= motor weight+-5g
  • Center of gravity point is 190 to 212 mm from the front of the nose, depending on battery and total weight, aim for 212 mm [10]
