Today I ordered a MacBook Pro! Yesterday Apple finally announced the introduction of the Intel Core 2 Duo, also known as Merom, to the MacBook Pro line. In addition in this update, Apple included firewire 800 and dual layer burning to the 15.4″ model.

According to the automatic shipping estimate, it will be built and shipped by 31st October. The delivery time should takes about a week before it hits my doorstep. Wonder where it will be sent from, either Ireland or Hongkong.

Update 1:
I remembered that I can take advantage of the Apple student discount since I’m still a valid HiA Grimstad student. That means a 8% discount or 1439 kr saved. Only hope that I don’t fall out of the first batch of C2D machines (had to re-order).

Update 2:
Decided to cancel yet another time and upgrade to the next middle model for a few hundred extra. I placed the order Oct. 28th at 12:27 AM, and the estiamted shipping date is Nov. 2nd and delivery the 10th. Hopefully it will get here faster than the estimates.

Update 3:
At the end of the week when I got the MBP, I decided that I would get a refund. There are two reasons for that decision; 1) The screen is not up to what I expect from such a machine, it has narrow view angle and dark corners, 2) The left speaker lacks the lower-frequencies compared to the right, which makes the sound off center and weird.
Let’s hope Apple ‘fixes’ this in future revisions or new models of their portable machines.
