Here’s a view of Arendal using Google Maps through Wikimapia.org. It’s pretty low resolution right now but hopefully this post will allow me to easily check to see how the satellite images will progresses over the next few years.

This morning I got the new system parts I ordered last week. I’ve had in mind to upgrade my workstation for a while, mainly add more memory. But after Intel announced their new Core 2 Duo processor chips in mid july, I started to read news that AMD would dump the prices on their chips up to 50%. A move to still have a competative edge against Intel latest and greatest. I decided that it was time to jump in and upgrade both the memory and the cpu. My setup really could take advantage of dual-core as I’m a heavy duty multitasker (my friends would probably agree).
I sold the premium OCZ 1 GB Extreme Latency (2-2-2-5) memory sticks I had to invest in new pair of Corsair 2 GB CMX1024-3200C2 (2-3-3-6) memory sticks. I sold them for 950 kr and the new one cost 1770 kr. Not a bad deal I think.
The new cpu I decided to go with was the AMD 64 X2 4400+ with 2x 1 MB cache for each core. I found that it was the best value for the money and I wanted something that would last the rest of the systems life. It replaced a very nice AMD 64 3000+ vince. The previous price point for new cpu was around 4000 kr, and I payed 2050 kr for it after AMD dumped the price last week.
I’m very happy with the upgrade and I can recommend against running a new system on 512 MB memory. It’s just so slove and the system has to swap memory to disk constantly. I had to do that for a week while waiting for the new sticks (the cpu was backordered). With dual-core everything is really responsive and fast, I have only played with the new upgrades for a few hours but I’m just starting to enjoy the jump in performance.
Unfortunately I didn’t have any Artive Silver 5 available and I had to go with the stock thermal pad on the cooler for now. Btw, the cooler is a lot bigger than the stock cooler for the AMD 64 3000+. Pipes and the lot.
Here’s a few pictures I took of new goods and a few showing them installed.
